Leadership and Vision

We have spent the first quarter speaking about the biblical model of leadership and the standard of Leadership and a Leadership Reflection. This month’s leadership, teaching will discuss the important components of making you an impactful leader in any sphere of Influence. 

Leadership begins with vision. Whether you are the Senior leader in an organization or  leading a team, you need to have a firm understanding of the vision of your team, organization, etc. What is it that your team is trying to do? If you are a leader in a church setting, how does the ministry you are leading add to the overall vision? For example, if the  vision of the organization is “The church that makes things Happen”, how does your ministry feed into that vision of making things happen? There will always be new ministries, companies, and those with new vision. To effectively steward the vision God has given you, you must be one that holds to the vision effectively. 

If you noticed, I used the word “effectively”. Effectively stewarding the vision means you focus on the vision, but you also allow a vision to grow and change over time. For example, when I started BARN Prophetic Ministries, INC the vision was to be a safe place where prophetic ministry could be learned and practiced. Over time, that vision begins to grow and change and we are now BARN Global Network. The BARN Global Network is still prophetic, but it is also apostolic, which means we are going to begin prophetically building with insight from the Holy Spirit. To build means that we are not only teaching the prophetic, but building spaces were prophetic ministry can grow and prosper. This is an example of allowing a vision to grow and expand.  

However, you have to be careful of allowing your vision to fall prey to changing simply because you notice another ministry or organization has a more popular idea. Popularity isn’t a vision. Visions have to be tried and tested. They may ebb, flow or change, but it’s important to stay true to the mandate even when there seems to be a more popular idea. You can always learn and adapt, but you especially if the mandate is from God, you don’t want to quickly abandon it because of something new and popular. 

Leadership is about perseverance, one of the greatest tests of perseverance will be how you steward the vision you have been given, whether it belongs to you or someone else.
